In this month, we interviewed Dr. Alexander Platt Senior Research Scientist, University of Pennsylvania and Dr. Xiangpeng Zhao, Tech Lead Manager, Meta/Facebook.
Dr. Alexander Platt is a theoretical evolutionary geneticist, whose work revolves around the evolutionary mechanisms which have generated the genetic diversity we have today. Dr. Platt holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematical biology from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in evolutionary biology from Harvard. He is currently working on the speciation process within humans and the relationships between Neanderthals and modern humans.
Dr. Xiangpeng Zhao is a seasoned software engineer at Meta, where he focuses on AI infrastructure, specifically on system performance and reliability. Since joining the company in 2012, he has played a pivotal role in developing big data processing platforms, automating bug detection in software, and enhancing mobile app performance. He earned his PhD in informatics from Peking University.

In this month, we interviewed Mr. Tyler Sluys a science fiction writer and Dr. Sunil Rajput, Director of Research Health Innovation at Alberta Innovates.
Tyler Slyus is a scientific fiction writer who published the Eva 2040 series set in for the near-future dystopian world. Despite writing, he has an interest in Marital Arts, weightlifting, gaming, hiking, heavy metal music, and reading scientific fiction. He has worked in many jobs, such as security details, private investigation, and formal education in security management.
Dr. Rajput has over 20 years of experience on the cutting edge of health technologies working with academia, clinicians and the private sector. His accomplishments include a successful prototype and pilot of a blood-based companion diagnostic for advanced prostate cancer to guide treatment and creating the first medical cannabis research and innovation programs for Alberta to enable pre-clinical and real-world studies. He is currently the Director of Research at Alberta Innovates.

In this month, we interviewed Dr. Xiting Yan, Associate Professor, Yale University and Dr. Sherlock Hu, the Chief Infomration Officer at GV20 Therapeutics.
Dr. Xiting Yan received doctoral degrees in both applied statistics and computational biology and bioinformatics. She is interested in genetics, genomics, computational biology, biostatistics, system biology and bioinformatics. Her current research topics include understanding disease heterogeneity and pathogenesis and developing novel statistical and computational methods for potential personalized treatment design.
Dr. Xihao "Sherlock" Hu is the Chief Information Officer and Chief Scientist at GV20 Therapeutics, where he leads a cross-functional team in AI-driven antibody drug design. With a Ph.D. in Computer Science and postdoctoral training at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard University, Dr. Hu has been pivotal in developing GV20’s AI/ML-based platform for therapeutic protein discovery.
